Classic Grays are the small, large-eyed beings made famous by abduction stories. Ismael Perez teaches that many were historically Orion-aligned but that their society split, and positive defectors now help the Alliance. In Bashar's material, as the crosswalk summarizes it, the Grays face a reproductive crisis and are the ancestors of a hybrid program that gives rise to new races: a story of renewal rather than invasion.

If you met one…

Most accounts describe a small, slender figure with a large head and dark almond eyes, communicating mind to mind rather than aloud. The encyclopedia calls them the most documented beings in abduction literature, but other contactees describe Zeta-type beings who are warm, expressive and kind.

What they look like

Usually about 3–4 ft tall, with hairless gray skin, an oversized head and large black almond eyes without visible pupils. Perez notes the gray body type spans small to very tall variants with highly developed nervous systems.

Their gifts

Sources describe them as gifted geneticists and telepaths, skilled in cloning, hybridization and technology that interfaces with human minds.

Their bond with Earth

Perez says hostile Earth-linked gray programs have largely been neutralized and that defectors have helped locate former underground and hybrid facilities. In Bashar's material, their hybridization work with humans is central to the birth of new hybrid civilizations.

Ismael Perez's briefing calls the Grays mixed: historically many were aligned with Orion and the Cabal, and some groups reportedly lost natural reproduction and turned to cloning. Zeta society later divided over agreements on biological material and hybrid research, and positive factions are said to assist the Earth Alliance. He says hostile Earth-linked gray programs have largely been neutralized, with defectors helping locate old underground installations and hybrid facilities.

The revised FAQ sums up Perez's position: 'Grey' is a body type, not a moral category, so origin and alignment have to be examined separately, and he distinguishes naturally evolved groups from manufactured robotic Grays. In his Cosmic Origins history, Zeta Reticuli 1 and 2 were among the worlds overrun during the Draco expansion.

Ismael Perez describes Classic Grays as ranging from small to very tall, with enlarged heads, large dark almond eyes and strong telepathy, rooted in Zeta Reticuli 1 and 2 (which he calls Rambola). He credits them with genetic engineering, hybridization, cloning and cybernetics, noting some groups lost natural reproduction. Historically many were Orion/Cabal-aligned, but he says hostile Earth programs were largely neutralized and defectors now help the Alliance, and he separates Apaxian/Apexian grays from manufactured robotic grays.

Ismael Perez describes the Zetas of Zeta Reticuli as historically service-to-self and Orion-associated, serving as frequent go-betweens for shadow-government programs and Majestic 12. He credits them with genetic extraction, cloning, human-technology interfacing and underground-facility technology. He says later agreements over biological material split Zeta society, and positive factions now assist the Earth Alliance.

In a talk livestreamed on 2023-11-29, Ismael Perez told what appears to be the story of the people of Apex (the transcript is garbled): survivors of a nuclear war who originally looked just like us. They retreated into their planet's hollow interior and, to prevent another nuclear holocaust, chose to do away with their emotional body and eliminate their sex organs.

Perez described the Grays, together with the Zetas of Zeta Reticuli 1 and 2, as programmed, robotic life forms who lost the ability to procreate and their connection to God by taking the transhumanist path millions of years ago, when they were humans like us. As a dying species, he said, they abduct humans to extract genetics for hybrids that can carry their race on.

Ismael Perez said some reformed Grays and Zetas crossed over to the light during the war and now sit in the Galactic Federation, after first fighting on the side of the Draco. He also called the Grays, like the Draco, mere pawns of far more powerful cybernetic intelligences.

Ismael Perez said the cosmic AI takes over species from within by linking their nervous systems and minds to a hive mind, and named the Grays as one of the galactic species that fell prey to it this way.

Ismael Perez said that by the time of President Eisenhower, the US government as a corporation had already been sold out to the Grays, the Zetas and the Draconian reptilians, which he blamed on decisions made under Truman, and that this is why advanced technology such as zero-point energy was never released.

Ismael Perez said Zetas still have souls, but less than before, because cloning and integration with cybernetic AI are eroding them.

Perez says the Grays were once humans from a planet he calls Apex in the Vega system who, invaded by AI, chose to integrate with it and became robotic.

In a 2026-05-17 talk Ismael Perez said the Grays were once humans from planet Apex, the Apexians, who were infiltrated by a hostile species he calls the Verdants and duped into transhumanism millions of years ago, which is why they now try to save a dying race. He rejected the idea that they are degenerate humans from a parallel Earth.

In his talk posted 2026-04-30 Perez placed planet Apex in orbit around the Vega star system in Lyra, and said the Apexians chose to integrate with an invading AI and became the robotic beings they are now.

In a 2026-04-25 interview Perez identified the Grays with the Igigi of the Sumerian tablets, counting them among the fallen angels aligned with Enki; in a 2026-04-18 conversation he instead equated the Igigi with Genesis's 200 fallen angels.

In a 2026-10-13 livestream Ismael Perez named Zeta Grays, with the Draco, as former overlords of Earth's cabal who supplied advanced cloning technology, and said they have since been dealt with off-world.

In Bashar's cosmology, as the crosswalk summarizes it, the Grays are central ancestors in a hybrid program that leads to several hybrid races, including Bashar's own Sassani. His material emphasizes their reproductive crisis, a people whose future depends on renewing their genetics, and treats Grey-human hybridization as something that has genuinely occurred. The crosswalk notes his framing is far less adversarial than Perez's political backstory.

In Bashar's account the Grays began as humans in a parallel reality. Their technology and their damaged environment eventually cost them the ability to reproduce naturally and narrowed their emotional range. To repair this genetic decline they reached across parallel realities to find compatible human genetics, and that search is Bashar's explanation for many abduction reports. A critical reader of the material notes that before about 2000 Bashar tied the Grays to Zeta Reticuli, and later described them as mutated humans from a parallel Earth. Both framings appear in his material.

Bashar presents the hybrid program as healing for both sides: it was meant to restore the Grays' genetic health and emotional range while giving humanity new frequencies. He also describes the Grays' 'Grey Federation' as one of the civilizations shaping Earth's past, which he covered in his 2014 Interstellar Enneagram talks.

Elizabeth April calls the Greys a varied species made up of several factions, some of which work alongside the Galactic Federation to help humanity; she credits them with great intelligence, telepathy and genetic research, and a role in the evolution of consciousness. The Greys are personal for her: she speaks of a Grey abduction at age four (a memory she says she recovered under regression hypnosis) and of Grey and Zeta beings as her own 'star family' aboard a Federation mothership.

Mari Swaruu says there are at least 165 kinds of Grays. The small Grays of Zeta Reticuli, whom she calls the 'Little Gardeners', are described as benign caretakers of planetary life who work from motherships and step in wherever a species' DNA is at risk, repairing it where they can; they speak only telepathically, having no vocal cords. She sets them apart from the regressive Orion Grays and the tall Maitre.

The A–Z encyclopedia describes the Greys as geneticists and hybrid-program operators with a mixed-leaning-negative orientation, and as a species trying to survive its own genetic extinction. It preserves several competing threads: Anna Hayes describes a blue-skinned governing caste (the Zephelium), the Russian Alien Races Book links Zeta-type beings to the Anunnaki and attributes the Roswell crash to a different gray-like race, and the P'nti contact corpus describes Zeta Reticulans who are warm and benevolent.
